So was I. As a parent of a young adult with a disability, I’ve felt the frustration and heartbreak of navigating a system that’s anything but person-centred.
Our families deserve more.
After 25 years working across health, education, child protection and disability systems, I am now applying my experience to support families to find ways to make systems work for them.
I have designed Innovate as a space where I can share my learnings – as a parent and as a professional – to help other families find a way to thrive. So much of what I know and practice now, has been learned from other families, or directly from people with disability. I want to bring together as many of these people as possible, so we can learn, experiment and grow together.
Innovate is designed for people who want to do things differently. That mean include direct employment or setting up a service-for-one – but it could also mean finding new ways to work with the support providers you already have.
